Community Wildfire and Evacuation Planning Meeting

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Wildfires are becoming larger, more destructive, and deadlier than ever before. With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start preparing for wildfire.
Numerous fire and law enforcement agencies, public land management agencies, and community organizations are encouraging the community to prepare for the next fire by attending a community wildfire and evacuation planning meeting on Thursday, April 25 from 6-8PM at South Tahoe Middle School.
The meeting will include information from leading experts about the threat wildfires pose to our community, how residents and visitors can be better prepared, and what you need to know before and during an evacuation. Experts will also provide an overview of the current state of wildfires in California, what is being done on public land surrounding Lake Tahoe communities, how to sign up to receive emergency notifications in an evacuation, and much more.
Special thanks to El Dorado County Sheriff, Lake Valley Fire District, CAL FIRE, South Lake Tahoe Fire, United States Forest Service, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, California Highway Patrol, Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Sustainable Community Advocates, Barton Health, and Tahoe Network of Fire Adapted Communities for participating in this great event.

The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) consists of representatives of Tahoe Basin fire agencies, CAL FIRE, Nevada Division of Forestry and related state agencies, University of California and Nevada Cooperative Extensions, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the U.S. Forest Service, conservation districts from both states, the California Tahoe Conservancy and the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board. Our Mission is to protect lives, property and the environment within the Lake Tahoe Basin from wildfire by implementing prioritized fuels reduction projects and engaging the public in becoming a Fire Adapted Community.
